This Oshkosh trip seems to be challenging us at every step. Firstly the weather over the weekend during setup caused a lot of havoc. We eventually got the Kipaero Bessonneau Hangar sorted and engine mounted onto stand. Because of the extra work needed in the hangar we didn’t get a chance to test run the engine on the stand. The first engine run on the Monday morning we could not seem to get fuel to the engine, initially we thought it was an air lock but it turned out the suction line in toat tank we use had fallen off inside the tank. So on Monday we had to admit defeat and the engine run was only a get revs and a little smoke.
We managed to fish out suction line and replaced it and we thought all was good. Tuesday run started great and we were privileged to have Andrew Carter from TAVAS narrate the run. Engine fired as per usual first pull and was just getting it running nice when it died. Crowd seemed happy even with the short run. Checked afterwards and found I had not opened the vent on toat tank and engine starved of fuel.
We thought by Wednesday we had it sorted, Kip narrated the start but this time nothing. We tried re priming and still nothing. Engine had electric start so tried starting on that, still no sign of life. Checked over engine and found that someone had pulled wires off the ignition. After a couple of goes managed to get wires in on the correct position. Engine fired as it normally does and preformed great. Thanks to Russ Turner for the loan of his engine, Kip and his team at KipAero for helping out.
